Langston University Bands

An archival photograph documents an early Langston marching band, while university records document the modern Marching Pride and substantial growth under Mark Gordon.

County navigation follows places named in the source records. A city crossing county boundaries can link to more than one county; this does not establish an exact historical location, birthplace or current residence.

The documented story

Modern university reporting documents national HBCU events, NBA halftime performances, Mardi Gras appearances, and substantial program expansion.

People and leadership

Mark G. Gordon leads the modern Marching Pride. University material also identifies Lonnie Easter as an earlier director, but a full twentieth-century succession has not been located.

Community and organization

The bands are institutional ensembles of Langston University, Oklahoma’s historically Black university.

Reading the evidence

The undated early photograph and modern rebuilding evidence do not prove uninterrupted ensemble continuity. “2018–present rebuilding era” should not be converted into a new founding date.

Questions for further research

The early photograph date and twentieth-century director chronology remain priority archival gaps.
