Matthew McClarty

The Smithsonian's 1982 Festival finding aid identifies Matthew McClarty Sr. as a gospel singer and pianist from Ada, Oklahoma, and distinguishes him from Matthew McClarty Jr., an electric bass player. The Hall-affiliated profile adds the Ada-to-Oklahoma City gospel and blues career, but the Smithsonian record is the independent identity anchor.

County navigation follows places named in the source records. A city crossing county boundaries can link to more than one county; this does not establish an exact historical location, birthplace or current residence.

Oklahoma connection

The Smithsonian archival record places McClarty Sr. in Ada as a gospel singer/pianist and documents a family ensemble.

Musical work and relationships

Gospel singer; pianist; father in a family ensemble with Matthew McClarty Jr. on electric bass and Michael McClarty on guitar.

Hall of Fame account

The Hall catalog lists Matthew McClarty as a gospel vocalist inducted in 1997.

Evidence and remaining questions

Confirm whether the Hall record intentionally omits Sr. and whether it refers to Matthew McClarty Sr. rather than his son.
