Jazz history

Jesse Ed Davis

The Oklahoma Historical Society identifies Davis as born in Norman to Kiowa and Cherokee parents, raised in Oklahoma City, and active in early Oklahoma venues before national work with Conway Twitty, Taj Mahal, Leon Russell, and other major artists. OHS materials also document his importance as a Native American and Oklahoma guitarist.

County navigation follows places named in the source records. A city crossing county boundaries can link to more than one county; this does not establish an exact historical location, birthplace or current residence.

Oklahoma connection

OHS directly documents Norman birth and Oklahoma City schooling and early performance; a separate OHS blues source gives Carnegie, so the childhood-location record remains internally inconsistent.

Hall of Fame account

The Hall catalog lists Jesse Ed Davis as a blues guitarist inducted in 2002.

Evidence and remaining questions

Reconcile Norman versus Carnegie as the correct Oklahoma birth/childhood location; do not silently normalize it.
