Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "City teens bend a few joints to the blaring sounds of the "Fender Benders" at the YMCA's "happening" Tuesday night - a mixture of folkadelic atmosphere and beat music. The "happening" happened last night. If you are under 8, you couldn't have gotten in, and if you were over 18, you wouldn't have understood. But the 150 teen-agers at the YWCA auditorium seemed to know what was happening at the happening. In old floks language, they were having fun. And, according to the teens, having fun is something that's hard to come by in Oklahoma City on a weekday summer night. And that's exactly why the Y decided to have a "Folkadelic Happening on Park Avenue." One mini-skirt clad blonde just couldn't believe, as she put it, "anything would ever happen in Oklahoma City." Attending, but skeptical, she even brought along her camera to prove the happening happened. The extra-loud music of the "Fender Benders" roared outside the canopied alley entrance to the happening as blinking colored lights invinted the youths inside. In the dimly lit auditorium, teens danced the way teens fo these days and no one knew who was who's partner except the partners themselves. the Fender Benders passed the decibel toleration level in almost every song, bending more ear drums than they ever did fenders. The youths didn't seem to mind. Instead, the dance floor usually filled up in propartion to the speed of the music and the loudness of the instruments."
