Musical history, people, ensembles, photographs, and source material from the Oklahoma Musicians Library.
Blaine County has a documented instrumental-music tradition centered most clearly in Watonga and Geary, with earlier related ensemble evidence from Okeene and a regional network of school, civic, church, parade, and holiday events. The strongest strict-scope evidence is a 1923 Watonga newspaper record of two bands giving free weekly summer concerts at a city park bandstand, followed by a detailed junior orchestra and small wind-ensemble program. Geary's 1975 high-school yearbook documents a mature program with concert, marching, pep, and stage bands, a named band teacher, a band president, honor-band and all-state participation, and a substantial body of four-year student involvement.
